The Gravity Lens Blog reminds us that it was six years ago today that a fuckup at Moonbase Alpha caused the Moon to rip free of the Earth's orbit. Forget space shuttles disintegrating on re-entry, that was a biggie.

Nothing much happening here. I've almost finished reading Neal Stephenson's The Confusion, the second volume of his Barock Cycle (sic). Jack Shaftoe is the only character in fiction who could give Christopher Walken a run for his money on the entertainingly crazy race. I'm looking forward to reading The System of the World, even though it make take me a while. We caught Charlie and the Chocolate Factory on the weekend. Not sure about Johnny Depp's rendition of Willie Wonka, but the rest of it kicked serious chocolate butt. The soundtrack is classic Danny Elfman stuff, riffing in the direction of his Pee-Wee's Big Adventure Days at times. Deep Roy playing eighty or ninety Oompa-Loompas had to have worked harder than any actor I've seen on screen since Cornel Wilde ran across Africa in The Naked Prey. Check it out.
