Pure Nerd

82 % Nerd, 39% Geek, 21% Dork

For The Record:

A Nerd is someone who is passionate about learning/being smart/academia.

A Geek is someone who is passionate about some particular area or subject, often an obscure or difficult one.

A Dork is someone who has difficulty with common social expectations/interactions.

You scored better than half in Nerd, earning you the title of: Pure Nerd.

The times, they are a-changing. It used to be that being exceptionally smart led to being unpopular, which would ultimately lead to picking up all of the traits and tendences associated with the "dork." No-longer. Being smart isn't as socially crippling as it once was, and even more so as you get older: eventually being a Pure Nerd will likely be replaced with the following label: Purely Successful.

Congratulations!

Just been to the GP who has given me a prescription for some antibiotics for my sinus problems. He says to do inhalations of steam to clear the blockage, which I'm doing now. He also said that it didn't much matter what you put into the steaming water, it was the steam that does the job of unclogging the cavities in my head. Okay. I have a strong brew of sulawesi kalossi coffee in my hot water for the inhalation, the advantage being that I can drink it after using it medicinally. And coffee is chokkers with anti-oxidants, so everything's looking up.

I've been using the downtime to rip some of my vinyl records to mp3s. Sondheim musicals, the movie soundtrack to Kismet, a jazz compilation from 1959, the 1975 Shakespeare Festival production of The Threepenny Opera with Raul Julia as Macheath, lots of Martin Denny and Nelson Riddle, too. What the fuck. I paid for those records, I'm just transmogrifying what I already paid for into a format I find more useful. If the DRM Gestapo don't like it, quelle dommage, you pricks. I'm not uploading it to the Interwebs or handing it out on streetcorners or promiscuously uploading it to i-pods. I'm just using it to annoy my child-of-the-1980s partner who, for all her myriad virtues, doesn't know a libretto from a chocolate cornetto and delights in giving me shit about my eclectic taste in music.
