Here's a picture of the large staple I put through my finger at work last Thursday. Went to St Vincent's Casualty with it, too. Apparently staples are very good at piercing all the way through small finger bones. Because it did crucify the bone, it had to be treated as if it was a compound fracture which meant lots of beaucoup strength antibiotics, which then gave me five days of severe tummy turbulence. I eventually went to my GP who took away the remainder of the drugs after inspecting the thumb and gave me two more days off work to wait out the "ring of fire" effect caused by the drugs. Meanwhile, of course, the thumb was doing great. You can hardly see the punctures...
