On the British and Empire Games:

From the Sydney Morning Herald's Stay In Touch column:

A Channel Nine weightlifting commentator managed to slip up on the first day of competition.

"This girl's got a great snatch," an as-yet-unidentified commentator said while calling the 48-kilogram weightlifting class yesterday, where Darwin-born Erika Yuriko Iris Yamasaki, 18,snatched, cleaned and jerked 'Straya's first medal for the Games.

Well, it is a compliment, I suppose.

I'm managing the traffic hassles of the BEG okay at the moment,by starting work an hour early and leaving at 4pm. I did make the mistake of going into the CBD yesterday to be massively annoyed by thousands of clueless fucks too stupid to read a Lonely Planet guide before travelling across the planet. They knock on the doors of trams when anyone without glaucoma can see there is no tram stop nearby. They wander up to the counters in stores ignoring the twenty long queues waiting to be sold things. They ask me how much a 65+ fare is on public transport. What am I? Google? The only comfort is the fact that these twits payed $500 plus to see a tram fly across a paddock, hear Delta Goodrum sing one of the most banal songs since Andrew Lloyd Webber last put pen to paper, and to watch a duck turn into a woman.

I want a time machine to zip-pan me to the end of March. I don't give a shit how great an athlete's snatch is.
