Well,
queen_nephthys and I are back in Oz after arising at 4.30am Auckland time to get the early flight to Brisbane, then the 11am flight down here to Melbourne. No stripsearches and bum-probes at customs -- the customs woman could not have been nicer as we declared my Jack Links beef sticks, a bag of Murphy's Potato Chips and
queen_nephthys declared her wooden postcards and the Tiki wall hanging in her bag. All the booze and porn DVDs didn't even get looked at. Airport Security in Oz is much more anal than in Aotearoa. I'm not sure why they can't scan laptops that are in laptop bags here, but in NZ there's no issue. Maybe it has something to do with Oz helping with the Invasion and Conquest of Iraq, which Helen Clarke, the PM of NZ just denounced again on September 11th.
My other favourite NZ personality is Paul Henry who does the morning show on TVNZ Channel 1. He's a tonic after the safe, careful TV presenters we have here. Occasionally blood rushes to his head and he gets outspoken, badmouthing the new King of Tonga or bitching about how the streets fill up with kids on school holidays. I disagree with him politically, but I like his outspokenness, which is a very Kiwi trait.
queen_nephthys can handle Kiwis, Brits, French people, the melting pot that is the population of Dubai, but Queenslanders freak her out for some reason.
So we made it home, got Jack the Cat out of prison and all is well.
