queen_nephthys and I are back here at home after driving in two hour tandem shifts from Sydney yesterday. The journey wasn't tiring but the first 200 kms which I did was made interesting by the gale force winds that hurled tree branches, dust, leaves, cardboard boxes and other vehicles at us as we ascended into the Southern Highlands of New South Wales. Apparently the gusts were going faster than the car was (over 110 kph) and they whipped up a few bushfires in our wake. By the time we hit Albury, the weather was cold. After the heavenly 30 degree plus days we'd been having up in Sydney, a return to chilly mid-teen temperatures was about as welcomed as a positive biopsy.
My sister Linda was the perfect hostess (along with her puffball cat, Saffron) doing domestic goddess stuff in the kitchen, escorting us around Newtown on Saturday night while we hunted for a good Thai restaurant (the one we picked was so-so) and accompanying us on a whirlwind trip up the central coast to Newcastle (with stops at The Entrance and Budgewoi). queen_nephthys also put up with my usual Sydneyside nostalgia with great forebearance and only a little sarcasm.
