The Coathanger was opened 75 years ago today by Jack Lang after Francis De Groot's attention seeking behaviour. I have a family history with the Bridge. The ship that brought my paternal grandparents out from England carried steel for it and they walked across the Bridge 75 years ago today. I've walked across it maybe a dozen times myself, day and night, but not for a while. Next time I'm in Sydney, I'll either do the Bridge Climb or walk across it. When the Opera House was opened on October 20th, 1973, I was watching the festivities and listening to rock bands down beside the northern pylon of the Coathanger in the area now occupied by the ventilation outlets for the Harbour Tunnel. Happy Birthday, Bridge.
