[livejournal.com profile] queen_nephthys and I are spending a couple of days down in Warnnambool and environs as a break from the rat race. Here are a few tips.

1. - the sausages on bread at the monthly Colac market are terrific. Not your homogenised mince sausages, these ones. Chunks of meat... mmmmm.
2. - there are way too many churches in Warnnambool. The population is 30,600 and they have a church for every five or six people here and one of the ugliest religious monuments ever. (I'll take a pic and post it.)
3. - Pinky's Pizza do great ribs and wings.
4. - I like strolling around by the waterfront anywhere. Riverside Park in New York, the Seine, the Thames, the Mersey or the Breakwater at Warnnabool.
5. - No touristy stuff this trip. Just all the natural beauty, some good local food and chilling out.
6. - Cheese World in Allanford is still my favourite cheese emporium. Just look for the giant milkshake outside it, or the massively large cheese factory across the road.

Well today is my 50th birthday. I have survived the Cold War, the Space Race, the Dismissal and eleven years of the Howard Junta.

Drove back from Warnnambool with [livejournal.com profile] queen_nephthys, partly along the Great Ocean Road, as far as Apollo Bay. Lots of gifties arrived from my family and my mobile rang several times with greetings. From Apollo Bay we cut through the Otways and across some back roads on our way back to Melbourne. I drove that bit while [livejournal.com profile] queen_nephthys slept. I might arrange some small gathering for Sunday lunch to catch up with people. Drop me a message if you're interested.
