After a healthy morning of gym workout and purchasing provender to keep
queen_nephthys going for the day, I escorted
rosiemitchell to the Van Mai Restaurant for lunch with JamieNLJ and SarahNLJ. La Mitchell chose the place partly because of the cool, cheap Vietnamese food and partly because it was known to be a haunt of any number of Melbourne gangsters, half of whom are now dirt-napping due to the actions of the other half. Great grub at a good price. In particular the duck in plum sauce and the beef with coleslaw were both excellent. After lunch we headed over to Victoria Gardens to see The Bourne Ultimatum which was disappointing. Making an expensive feature film entirely with hand-held cameras is okay for the film-makers but a pain in the retinae for the audience. Another example of smarty-pants movie making. Paul Greengrass is a good director but there are times when the camera POV doesn't have to be someone looking over the actors' shoulders. Plotwise? Meh. Nothing we ain't seen before. Lotsa running, jumping, shooting, standing still, punching assassins... It was like an inflated episode of Alias without the costume changes.
We dissected the flick afterwards over coffee and chips with garlic aioli. Not a bad day's socialising with very sympatico folk. :)
