Ain't It Cool News is reporting that Sir Ian McKellen may well be the new Number 2 in a proposed miniseries of the classic TV show. Good choice if it's true, but Jim Caviezel as Number 6? Surely someone who has a bit of charisma would be better. Yeah, the guy can do anguish well, but I'm not convinced he has the qualities we need to replace Patrick McGoohan.

Lemme see, who does have the chops? Any ideas?

Also, I saw Indy 4 this morning. Here are a few observations:

* Twenty six minutes of ads and trailers is way too much. It makes me grumpy.

* Shia LaBoeuf plays a JD about as well as I would Madame Butterfly.

* The CGI and effects? Yawn. Gimme a matte painting and matte lines if that's the best they can do.

* That scene in the temple with the action-figure aliens? It had about as much tension as the animatics in a second-rate PC game and less so than some I've seen.

* Who the fuck lead-lines a fridge?

* Ray Winstone, Karen Allen, John Hurt and Jim Broadbent were utterly wasted, and not in a good way.

* Harrison Ford looked grumpy and embarassed all the time.

* Cate Blanchett's role was a total rip off from an episode of Rocky and Bullwinkle. She seemed to be channeling Rosella Falk in the 1966 Modesty Blaise movie in the bit just before Terence Stamp says "Who's the bird with the beady eyes".

*The attempt at injecting some subtle digs at modern America into it were half-hearted at best.

* Shia LaBoeuf essays dangerousness about as well as Dean Venture does. (BTW, Venture Bros series 3 is starting to appear on the torrents, and they have a t-shirt of the week club that tempts me.)

* Iron Man kicked its arse in every respect.

* Make it an overnight rental.
