I spent this afternoon trying to hack the region-free setting on the new LG DVD recorder which required some deep googling and no small amount of trial and error fiddling with remote control buttons. Why do they even bother putting zoning on these bloody things? I'm only going to take it off again as soon as is humanly possible.
But I do love having an USB port on the front of the recorder/player.
I've also tweaked some tech to be able to transfer a few films I have on VCD to DVD format, particularly a fave of mine L'Homme De Rio starring Jean-Paul Belmondo and Francoise Dorleac. It worked pretty well as a two step process using a piece of software called ISOBUSTER to extract the mpg file and then Nero Premium to created a menued DVD. It ain't professionally perfect but very workable.
