Still got the tail end of the flu. Sal's off at her parents' place across town. She offered to come home and mop my fevered brow, but she needs the time with the Outlaws, so I declined. Spent three days now couch and bed bound pretty much with occasional sojourns out for food, sunshine and the wind in my (fortunately still abundant) hair. The worst aspect of the bug isn't the coughing, the megalitres of mucus, the pain or the inability to sleep, it's the vagueness. I pride myself on my mental acuity (to whatever degree I possess it) and having it compromised by little fuckers too small to see without an electron microscope miffs me.

Here's what I've learned in the three days:

Don't see Max Payne, it's total shit. Mark Wahlberg is to acting what a shaky cam video of dog licking itself is to quality 1970s pornography.

Jimmy Fallon's gormless frat boy act makes his talk show hard to watch for more than two minutes straight, even when you feel too sick to use the remote. I give him two years, tops, though that kind of bullshit may play better in the USA than it does here.

I slow-bake rabbit really well. It comes out moist and tasty but I only ate a bit of it because I was feeling sick. Don't cook game when you have the flu.

It is difficult to watch "Mrs Parker And The Vicious Circle" on DVD when the power cuts out twice in twenty minutes. Great Robert Altman movie, but at the worst possible point, the only light hitting my eyes came from my laptop. Fuck you, Powercor. Why couldn't that happen during Max Payne? I wouldn't have cared.

Getting a parcel that you know is your Blue Snowball Microphone birthday present and having Sal say I can't open it until she gets home is just sadistic.

The best video viewing for being sick is either old Quatermass movies or any 1950s musical where Michael Kidd does the choreography. Dunno why, but it's true.

Sal may like having Jack the Cat sleep on the bed with her, but with me, the little fuck steals all the bed and kneads the blanket for about thirty hours straight right near my ear.

Gotta go, need to look at one of the Jess Franco vampire soft core porn films that Jamie and Sarah keep giving me.
