Actually I was a bit disappointed in the programming, or at least my personal experience of it -- some of my panels were poor by design, some just turned out that way. And there were quite a few familiar topics on the list, though some good stuff as well. The Wild Palms one we did was fine. But overall programming was better than the very writer dominated programs of some recent cons.
Thanks for the feedback, Dave. Jamie, Keith and I tried to get the balance right. There are things we'd do differently in the future but on the whole, we're pleased with it.
We're also going to look at who performs well on a panel and who doesn't, based on some feedback from participants. Personally I think programming works best when either a) everyone's there for fun or b) people are sharing a passionate interest in the subject matter. And passion doesn't just come from writers.
I think a writer dominated programme would bore the neurones out of me. Our community has good minds and good entertainers among both those who do and do not write fiction.
